The brief

Creating a destination for the whole stay

Following our work on Rose Spa, our involvement at Quob Park expanded to the Farmhouse Retreat.

The ambition was to strengthen Quob Park’s wedding and events offer by creating somewhere guests would want to spend more time: not simply a venue for the occasion itself, but a private retreat where people could stay, relax and enjoy the surrounding countryside together.

The Farmhouse was conceived around everything that happens either side of an event. Arriving, staying together, preparing, celebrating and taking time to recover afterwards. Wellness became an important part of that experience.

Rather than creating a conventional spa or adding treatments to a stay, we looked at how the pool, hot tub, heat, cold and outdoor relaxation could become part of the time guests spend together. For weddings in particular, this created opportunities to extend the experience beyond the ceremony and reception, turning the occasion into a longer, more memorable stay.

Our approach

Bringing the outside in

We considered how the interiors and wellness spaces could make the most of the views, using natural materials, tactile finishes and a warm, understated palette to strengthen the relationship between inside and out.

The intention was to create calm, comfortable spaces that embraced the surrounding landscape, allowing nature to remain an integral part of the guest experience.

Our work extended from the wellness areas into the hotel rooms, helping establish a consistent character across the retreat and ensuring the accommodation felt part of the same experience.

This considered approach reflects our wider expertise in commercial spa and wellness design, bringing together interiors, guest experience and a strong sense of place to create environments that feel distinctive to their setting.

Outdoor wellness

Relaxation with a view

The outdoor wellness experience was planned around a swimming pool and hot tub overlooking the countryside, creating a setting where guests could relax together while retaining the intimacy of a private retreat.

A retractable louvred roof allows the space to open fully to the landscape in good weather, while providing shelter when conditions change. Combined with glazed sides, it creates an all-weather wellness space without losing the views, natural light or sense of being outdoors.

The result is a space that can be enjoyed throughout the year, with the surrounding fields and open countryside remaining an integral part of the experience.

A cold Kneipp experience was developed around a refurbished salvaged metal well, giving an existing feature a new purpose within the wellness journey.

Designed to incorporate cold-water immersion and Kneipp therapy, it brings character to the experience while connecting something old with the Farmhouse’s new role.

Inside the retreat

Designing spaces to slow down

Custom-built daybeds provide places to rest between experiences, with the wellness spaces designed to feel relaxed and sociable rather than overly formal.

That thinking continued into the bedrooms, where our work considered the hotel-room experience as part of the retreat as a whole. Materials, finishes and detailing were developed to create spaces that feel comfortable, contemporary and connected to the rural setting outside.

The outcome

A different kind of private retreat

The Farmhouse Retreat gave Quob Park a distinctive new dimension to its weddings and events offer, bringing together private accommodation, wellness and the surrounding landscape.

By designing the experience around the wider stay rather than the event alone, the Farmhouse creates more reasons for guests to arrive earlier, stay longer and enjoy Quob Park together.

The result is a more complete destination experience, where accommodation, wellness and the landscape come together to make the time around the event as memorable as the occasion itself.
